DESCRIPTION: Geh N'Gere wooden polychrome mask, Liberia. 19th/20th century. Mixed wood painted with cola nut residue from Poro ceremony. Articulated lower jaw and heavily pronounced features. PROVENANCE: From the Saul and Florence Putterman Collection, Sarasota, Florida. Purchased from the Segy Gallery in 1973. Copy of Segy Gallery certificate #2783 included. Saul Putterman is an entrepreneur and founder of apparel and fashion manufacturing enterprises in New York, Florida, and Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Florence Putterman is a highly regarded artist who received her BS degree at New York University and her Masters of Fine Arts Degree at Penn State University. Originally from New York City, The Puttermans have made their home for over 50 years in Selinsgrove, PA, and winter in Sarasota, Florida. They are active humanitarians and philanthropists who collected fine modern and contemporary art and tribal art during their lives. MEASUREMENTS: 10-1/2" x 5". CONDITION: Heavy encrustation to face.
