Description
A 1940's silver cigarette case, the rectangular form with engine-turned decoration and inset with two rose gold tone vertical panels, opening to a presentation engraving, hallmarked Birmingham 1942 with maker's mark DRH, also incised the 'Belvoir' patent, length measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm). Together with a further 1940's cigarette case, also with engine-turned decoration surrounding a crested rectangular panel to the centre, opening to a gilded interior with personal engraving dated 29/6/46, hallmarked Smith & Bartlam, Birmingham 1944, length measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm). Gross weight 13.64 ozt (424.2 grams). (2).
Condition
Both cases display general tarnishing and surface wear. Numerous surface marks and scratches and some minor dints and bumps. Some heavier wear around edges and corners. Both hinges appear in working order. The catch on the later case does not close tightly leaving a small gap when in closed position. The hallmarks to both are clear and legible. The inscription in the first case reads 'To the Finest 'Devils' Advocate' with appreciation The 3 A's'.
