A set of two pre Civil War original 19th century illustrated newspapers, New York & Boston. A 12 pg January 16, 1858 New York Harper's Weekly illustrated newspaper. Wood engravings & stories include the fashions ofthe day, the ancient city of Antioch & cartoons depicting dogs dressed in clothing. Also, a 16pg April 24, 1852 Gleason's Pictorial, illustrated newspaper of the day, published in Boston. Wood engravings &stories covering - "View of the new State House at Columbus, Ohio" , "View of The Smithsonian Institute at Washington, D.C." & "The Charleston Hotel, Charleston, S.C." Also, a nice engraving of huddled rabbits & a small engraving showing the cotton pod & flower. Both newspapers are 11" X 16" & in good condition.
