The Karma Kagyu was founded by Dasum Khyenpa, 1st Karmapa Lama. It is headed by the Karmapa, a reincarnate lama (tulku) The direct master-disciple transmission of the lineage holders of the Karma Kagyu is known as the Golden Rosary of Kagyu Fathers. A thangka is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on the medium of cotton, or silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala.
