F. Scott Fitzgerald Regrets He Cannot Meet a Woman Recommended by 1920s Novelist Joseph Hergesheimer
F. SCOTT FITZGERALD (1896 -1940). American Author of novels and short stories, one of the greatest American Writers of the 20th century. Fitzgerald is considered a member of the "Lost Generation" of the 1920s. He finished four novels: This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, The Great Gatsby, and Tender Is the Night. A fifth, unfinished novel, The Love of the Last Tycoon, was published posthumously.
February 15, 1922-Dated, Exceptional Quality, Autograph Letter Signed, "F. Scott Fitzgerald", 1 page, measuring 8.5" x 11, at St. Paul, Minnesota, to Lucy Norval, Choice Extremely Fine. Comes together with its original Transmittal Envelope exhibits some small tears not affecting text, addressed in Fitzgerald's hand to, "Miss Lucy Norval, Radisson Hotel, Minneapolis Minn." (Another hand has crossed out that address and written a forward to: "c/o McKesson & Robbins, 91 Fulton St., N.Y.C., NY".) The Handwritten Letter is quite magnificent with excellent eye appeal, being bold and vividly written. F. Scott Fitzgerald writes, in full:

“My dear Miss Norval --- A message came yesterday from Mr. Joseph Hergesheimer telling me that you were at the Radisson hotel. I delayed writing you because we have been having a double misfortune here with a desperately sick baby and my wife's mother in such condition that only the baby kept us from starting immediately south. I had hoped both situations would clear up by today so that we might have the pleasure of meeting you during your stay here-but though the baby is better, the other matter is not and unless there is a decided change my wife expects to leave for the south tomorrow night.

I didn't mean to burden you with a list of domestic calamities but I wanted to explain my apparent discourtesy in not writing immediately and availing ourselves of the pleasure Mr. Hergesheimer's message promised. May I hope that some time you will be in the twin cities when we are under more fortunate auspices. Sincerely, - (Signed) F. Scott Fitzgerald”

A remarkable treasure being a superb quality Letter having the full signature “F. Scott Fitzgerald” measuring about 2.75” long in vivid brown ink at its conclusion, together with its original Transmittal Envelope. (2 items)
Joseph Hergesheimer was a prominent writer in the early 20th century known for his naturalistic novels of decadent life amongst the very wealthy. Hergesheimer's manner of writing, known at the time as the "aesthetic" school, remained in demand throughout the 1920s - F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby being the most durable example of a book written in this style.
