Albert Einstein’s Extraordinary Content & Highly Charged Political Letter Which Raises Serious Concerns About the United States Government’s Actions During World War II
ALBERT EINSTEIN (1879-1955). Historic German-born American Theoretical Physicist, Nobel Prize Winning Mathematical Physicist, recognized as “Person of the 20th Century” who developed the General Theory of Relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics (alongside quantum mechanics).
September 3, 1942-Dated World War II Era, Remarkable & Important Historic Content Typed Letter Signed, “A. Einstein”, 2 pages (on 1 typing paper sheet front and back), measuring 8.5” x 11”, on his personal blind-stamped, “A. Einstein, 112, Mercer Street, Princeton, New Jersey, U.S.A.” embossed letterhead, typed in English, Choice Extremely Fine. Einstein writes an incredible content, highly charged, and very angry Political Letter to a Dr. Frank Kingdon regarding serious concerns about the United States Government’s actions during the early period surrounding America’s entry into World War II. This exceptional content Letter of great historic importance reads, in full:

“Dear Dr. Kingdon: --- You can imagine how the new crimes committed by the Nazis in France make me suffer, crimes assisted to by the Vichy-trators. I cannot, however, make up my mind to approach Washington on the matter. My reason is a sad one indeed and I wish to explain it to you so that you may understand my negative attitude: I do not believe in the effectiveness of a lame and half-hearted lip-service brought about by pressure from outside.

Why did Washington help to strangulate Loyalist Spain? Why has it an official representative in fascist France? Why does it not recognize a French Government in Exile? Why does it flirt with Franco-Spain? Why is there no really serious effort to assist Russia in her dire need? Why is Finland treated with kid-gloves? (I know their explanations but do not believe them.)

Because it is a government controlled to a large degree by financiers the mentality of whom is near to the fascist frame of mind. If Hitler were not a lunatic he could easily have avoided the hostility of the Western powers. That he is a lunatic is the sole advantage in the present sinister picture of the world.

I am not impressed by words but by deeds and facts. I don’t like to mention those things, especially as one who is grateful having sought and found refuge and protection in this country. But I am sure that my short remarks will suffice as explanation and you will understand that I cannot feel enough optimism to participate in the action which you promote with such worthy intentions.

May I use this occasion, my dear Dr. Kingdon, to express to you my appreciation and gratitude for you indefatiguable (sic) efforts in the service of humanity and justice. -- Very sincerely yours, -- (Signed) A. Einstein. - Professor Albert Einstein.”

Right up until just before 8 a.m. on December 7, 1941, when hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor at Honolulu, Hawaii, the government of the United States failed to officially enter World War II. At the conclusion of this Letter, it is beautifully Signed “A. Einstein” in sharp crisp deep blue ink measuring fully 1.25” long and stands out prominently in its eye appeal.
Albert Einstein was widely known during his lifetime for his work with the Theory of Relativity and Physics in general. His political opinions were of great public interest through the middle of the 20th century due to his fame and involvement in political, humanitarian and academic projects around the world. He was often called upon to give judgments and opinions on matters often unrelated to theoretical physics or mathematics.

Einstein’s visible position in society allowed him to speak and write frankly, even provocatively, regarding highly important social issues including the plight of his fellow Jews and refugees, at a time when many people were silenced due to the rise of the Nazi movement.

Recognized as one of the greatest physicists of all time. Albert Einstein enunciated the general theory of Relativity, with its postulate of a constant velocity for light and its consequence, the equivalence of mass and energy (E=mc2). For his work in theoretical physics, largely for his 1905 paper on photons and photoelectricity, Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics (announced in November, 1922, retroactive for 1921). Working on a unified field theory, he then attempted to explain gravitation and electromagnetism with one set of laws.

With the expulsion of Jewish scholars from Germany following Hitler's rise to power, Einstein became associated with the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey (1933), which became the most celebrated research center in the world.
