March 1934 John Dillinger Wanted & Fingerprint Poster
(JOHN HERBERT DILLINGER) (1903-1934). Named “public enemy number one” by the FBI in 1933, American gangster in the Depression-era United States. operated the Dillinger Gang or Terror Gang, accused of robbing 24 banks and four police stations, escaped from jail twice.
March 12, 1934-Dated, JOHN DILLINGER, Official Fingerprint Classification and Official Wanted Poster of John Dillinger, U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C., measuring 8" x 8", Choice Crisp Extremely Fine. Identification Order No. 1217, dated March 12, 1934. This Wanted Poster mailer is printed in black on heavy period wove light cardstock. It has a complete set of Dillinger's fingerprints, complete criminal record, aliases, distinguishing marks including bullet wounds, and a sample of his signature along with his Photo at center and signature printed in facsimile below. Signed in type at bottom right by J. Edgar Hoover, Director. On the back is a list of 30 offices of the U.S. Department of Justice and their telephone numbers. Dillinger was known for bank robberies and daring jail escapes. He was named “public enemy number one” by the FBI in 1933. In 1934, he was ambushed and killed by FBI agents in Chicago, after being betrayed by the “Lady in Red.” This poster is a popular piece of criminal Americana that is nice for display.
