Description
The lot features a wonderfully beaded tomahawk drop from the Northern Plains Native American Indianscirca 19th century. The late 19th century piece shows an Indian tanned hide construction with exceptional tiny glass trade seed beads in Cheyenne pink or lavender, chalk white, and a light blue. The beadwork shows a wonderful geometric period design with an alternating lower and arrow or strong symbol above. The piece shows a unique manufacture as it would have slipped over the pipe tomahawk or war club wooden haft, as most drops would attached to a pierced hole on the haft. The long fringe shows brass trade beads and the entire edge has an excellent black trade seed beaded fancy edge. Truly an excellent early authentic piece. Measures 2.75" x 19".
