Description
A letter in the handwriting and with the signature of Rabbi Avraham Elimelech Perlow - the Rebbe of Karlin. Written on a postcard stamp in 1934.
In the letter, the Rebbe responds to a question about use of a particular medication which "is not dangerous", and offers blessings for a speedy recovery, a happy festival and additional blessings. In the letter's margins he asks: "If it is possible to do something for our yeshiva".ÂÂ
The Rebbe Rabbi Avraham Elimelech Perlow of Karlin [1892-1942] was the son of the Rebbe Rabbi Yisrael "Hayanuka" of Karlin. He served as Rebbe from 1921, following his father's death in Frankfurt, and was the most renowned of his father's sons. He visited Israel several times. His last visit was in 1939, on the eve of the breakout of the Holocaust, and his disciples tried to prevent him from returning to Europe. He refused and left in the last boat to set sail from Israel. He and his children were all murdered in the Holocaust.ÂÂ
