Original portrait photograph by Elliott T. Fry (signed in lower margin). Image approximately 5¾x4", plus margins. Matted and framed, overall 17x14½".

Inscribed by the Canadian explorer beneath his image: "To Henry Fairfield Osborn with the friendship and admiration of Vilhjalmur Stefansson, April 1908 to September 1912." Inscription dated May 22, 1918. Under the auspices of the American Museum of Natural History, New York, Stefansson and Dr. R. M. Anderson undertook an ethnological survey of the Central Arctic coasts of the shores of North America from 1908 to 1912. Osborn was at this time president of the museum.
