Four preliminary leaves plus 20 engraved plates. (Folio) 49.5x33.5 cm (19½x13¼") loose in original board portfolio, as issued.
The plates originally appeared in "Examples of Ornamental Sculpture in Architecture, drawn from the Originals in the Years 1818-21," published in 1825. This edition printed by the publisher from the original copper plates of the artist. The 1825 edition is virtually unobtainable. Spiers was the author of many of the articles dealing with architecture in the famed 11th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Condition
Bookplate of Haverford College, with withdrawn stamps, embossed stamp on title page, plates not marked but for an embossed stamp in the margin of the final plate; light wear and foxing; very good.
