Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A terracotta head of a near spherical shape with nicely delineated almond shaped eyes outlined with applied filets, a protuding nose adorned with a gold and greenstone bead nose ring, an open mouth, and pierced ears adorned with gold hoop earrings. The surface is incised with linear and zigzag patterns, perhaps indicative of tattoos or scarification marks. A special example, replete with lovely gold and greenstone ornaments. Size: 5" L x 2.5" H (12.7 cm x 6.4 cm)
