Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, “Reine de Joie”, lithograph printed in colours on 2 sheets of paper, edition unknown, printed by Edward Ancourt & Cie, Paris, signed F. Lautrec in stone, 54 1/2” x 37 1/4” (138.4 x 94.6), framed, condition: poster in 2 halves, upper and lower half laid down on masonite, alignment of 2 halves is slightly off on left side, small chips, nicks all around edges, small pale brown spots of light brown discolouration throughout, water damage bottom 3”, 3” horizontal scratch on left side just below centre on image, a few minor nicks upper right quadrant, bottom left corner of masonite slightly damaged. This poster was designed by Lautrec in 1892 to promote his friend Victor Josée’s erotic novel entitled “La Reine de Joie: Moeurs du demi-monde”, about a beautiful young courtisane whose lavish lifestyle was sustained by her lover, a rich, corpulent, older banker.
