Antique map, prepared for consideration by the British Parliamentary Select Committee on Metropolitan Communication. At the time of the publication of the map, various proposals to provide a railway terminus into the West End of London for lines running to the south were being considered by extending existing rail lines north over Hungerford Bridge. This plan shows a proposal for a "Station on Thames" spanning Hungerford Bridge. Charing Cross station, designed by Sir John Hawkshaw, was eventually built to the north of the river on the site of the Hungerford Market and opened on 11 January 1864.
