"A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR YOU" ALBUM COVER SLICK
Extraordinarily rare, likely one-of-a-kind unused LP record cover slick, 13 1/2" x 14 3/4", for the album "A Christmas Gift for You from Philles Records", the label owned by noted producer Phil Spector. The album is a compilation of secular Christmas songs, including "White Christmas", "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", "Frosty the Snowman", and "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", performed by Philles artists Darlene Love, Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans, the Crystals, and the Ronettes and produced using Spector's iconic "Wall of Sound" methods. The album had the great misfortune to be released on Nov. 22, 1963, the day of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and was an immediate flop. Subsequent re-releases cemented its status as both a Christmas and R&B classic, and copies of the original pressing, to which this album slick would have been applied, are very rare and highly desirable to collectors. The piece shows one or two minute creases, else very good.
