Description
Albrecht Durer (Dutch, 1471-1528). "Christ in Limbo" - 1510, from "The Large Passion", woodcut on paper, monogrammed within matrix lower right "AD", dated within matrix near center "1510". A good impression with strong contrast, woodblock print depicting a scene from the life of Christ. Sheet size approximately 15.625" x 11.25". Framed approximately 23" x 18.5". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Judy McLean, Mills River, North Carolina.
Condition
Examined out of the frame. Sheet trimmed down to just outside the margin. Foxing evident to verso along with two chalk and graphite inscriptions. Sheet not laid down, adhered to mat board in four places with non-archival tape that keeps to the margin only. Two remnants of older framing tape to verso of sheet. To recto, one apparent crease or tear repair near center. Even toning to recto of sheet with minor foxing visible. Sheet stable with no further flaws or repairs.
