American School, early 20th century. After William Aiken Walker (American (South Carolina, 1838-1921), "Washday", gouache on paper laid to board, inscribed to lower left "Wash Day in Mims". Figural American folk painting after the original by noted American painter William Aiken Walker (American (South Carolina, 1838-1921), depicting Southern genre scene with African American family on their porch on wash day as laundry dries on the nearby line, with children and chickens in the foreground. Framed approximately 13.25" x 16.25". Unframed approximately 10.75" x 13.5".
Condition
Paper is fully laid to board. Wear and losses to all margins. Frame rubbing detected to lower right corner. Minor scuffing to lower left corner. Work does not fluoresce under black light examination.
