WILLIAM AIKEN WALKER (AMERICAN, 1838-1921) SOUTHERN GENRE PAINTING, oil on academy board, depicting an elderly African-American man and woman in a field picking cotton, she is carrying a basket of cotton on her head, cabin in the background, signed "WA Walker" lower left. Board verso with New York supply store partial label and pencil inscriptions including "Field" and prices. Period gilt and gesso frame. Reserve. Fourth quarter 19th century. 9" x 12" sight, 14" x 17" OA.
Painting in excellent condition. Frame with minor wear and losses, small areas of re-touch to gilt surface.
