Description
Ships in New York Harbor with Statue of Liberty in background. Sears Gallagher was a Boston painter who is counted in the pantheon of the first generation of the Boston School that included Edmund C. Tarbell, William M. Paxton, Joseph R. DeCamp, Frank Benson, Philip L. Hale, and Herman Dudley Murphy. As the popularity of Gallagher's etchings also grew, he was asked to join the staff of Boston University, where he became a popular printmaking instructor. In 1929, one of Gallagher's etchings, a Monhegan scene entitled, Early Morning," won the Silver Medal at the 10th International Exhibition of the Print Makers Society of California. Gallagher was the only American to win a prize that year." Signature: Center. Medium: Etching. Framing: Unframed. Artist: Sears Gallagher. Size: 3.5 x 12". Monogram in Lower Left
