Description
Set of Four Chinese Black and Rouge Lacquer Panels, early 20th c., with bone overlay decoration of flowering branches and birds, presented in red and gilt frames, H.- 37 in., W.- 17 3/4 in. Provenance: The Estate of James C. Westerfield, Jackson, Mississippi.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Faint white line across the red border of one panel. Faint scratch and approximate 1 inch hairline crack in the black ground near the bottom left corner. Body of one bird loose and ½ inch area of chips to the black ground below. An inverted Y-shape faint crack below one bird. A pea-size chip to the black ground near the top. A 1 inch and 1 ½ inch crack below another bird. A ½ inch loss to a thin branch. A ¼ inch crack across one branch. A lovely set.
