Già attribuito a Michele Marieschi (Venezia 1710-1743), la tecnica pittorica tutta di tocco e impasto, con pennellate veloci e distese quasi d'istinto, conducono a riferire il dipinto Francesco Albotto. Al suo migliore allievo viene infatti ricondotta ponendone la datazione al quinto decennio. Questa percezione si coglie osservando con attenzione le figure e il fondale di gusto guardesco L'immagine deriva dal prototipo di Marieschi custodito alle Gallerie dell'Accademia di Venezia e l'immagine ebbe straordinaria fortuna, tanto da essere più volte replicata con lievi varianti.
