Item Details
Description
Africa, Yoruba Culture, Nigeria, western Africa, ca. 1940 to 1950. Wonderfully vibrant and striking wooden headdress! Carved in 2 pieces with almost life-sized head of a male, hair pulled to one side looking somewhat phallic, he wears a short beard and is decorated with three areas of vertical scarifications - painted in red, black and off-white. This mounted into rounded slightly conical collar which would have been attached to a headdress. A stunning piece of original African tribal art! Size: 9.5" L x 5.5" W x 12.5" H (24.1 cm x 14 cm x 31.8 cm)

All tribal examples have been vetted and are guaranteed authentic tribally used pieces and not tourist items.

Provenance: Ex - Adeon Gallery, Nick Poolos collection, Chicago, IL acquired before 1970

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
