A SWISS TWELVE AIR FIVE BELL CYLINDRICAL MAHOGANY, WALNUT AND GRAINED WOOD MUSIC BOX, RETAILED BY W.S. RILEY & SON, BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND, CIRCA 1880-1890, with 9 1/4" cylinder, enameled butterfly strikers and two dancing figures, opening to a a walnut veneer and a listing of all twelve airs on printed card marked "Lith Picard-Lion, Geneve" and including mechanism serial number "16511," the case with mahogany and walnut veneer with transfer printed urn surrounded by fronds, satinwood stringing and bleached walnut border, foliate and acanthus scroll transfer printed decoration, flanked by silvered copper bail handles attached to Art Nouveau style backplates, with silvered lock escutcheon and grape leaf ends, raised on four partial block feet, the bottom portion painted black with hinged glazed panel, marks: "W.S. RILEY & SON, SOLE AGENTS, Show Rooms: 100 & 102 CORPORATION ST., BIRMINGHAM" plaque affixed to interior of lid, "16511" stamped to cylinder and plate. Height: 9" Width: 22 3/4" Depth: 12 1/2"

In overall fair condition, with rubbing and losses to transfer printed decoration on the top, minor splitting wood, loss of silvering to handles and backplates, left portion of interior of the base lacking.
