China, Qing (Ching) Dynasty, ca. 1644 to 1912 CE. A beautiful jade knife in the form of a bird in profile, hand-carved from a jade stone of rich verdant green hues, the stylized bird forms on both sides are nicely delinated with curved silhouettes and carefully incised eyes, wings, and feet. Perforated at upper and lower ends for suspension. Beyond its intriguing iconography is the inherent beauty of the jade stone. Size: 4.125" L x 1.125" W (10.5 cm x 2.9 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Private LA County collection formed over the period between 1980 and 2000; Ex-Peter Klika collection.
