Description
China, Qing Dynasty, reign of Quian Long, ca. 1711 to 1799 CE. A beautiful porcelain vessel of a pristine spherical form with finely delineated blue enamel decorative motifs occupying registers surrounding the rim and base, a thin line of gold leaf bordering the rim, an elaborate image of a fiery red dragon with gold details and bulging black eyes surrounded by curled plumes of smoke on each side, and on the underside of the base, a red enamel seal that translates to "Quian Long" who reigned from 1736 to 1795 CE. Size: 3.125" in diameter x 2.625" H (7.9 cm x 6.7 cm)
Comes in a lovely cylindrical container adorned with a silk decorative fabric featuring stylized floral and dragon-like motifs in green, gold, and rose against a pale pink ground, the interior lined with a cream-silk lining. The characters handwritten on the interior of the lid were indecipherable by our translator.
Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
