PENNSYLVANIA/SCOTTLAND, 1812-1896
An oil on paper landscape painting by Naturalist Russell Smith. The work depicts Pine Lake near Conway, New Hampshire. Smith was a self taught artist influenced by the aesthetic of the Hudson River School as exhibited with the small deer drinking from the lake in the middle ground. The work is signed, titled, and dated "1857" on verso and retains original Vose Galleries label.
Provenance: Purchased from Vose Galleries, Boston, December 31st, 1981.
Dimensions: Paper measures 8 1/8" by 11 1/4", framed 12 5/8" by 16 3/4"
