Description
Restocked with Brown Bess Pattern 1757 parts, probably Hudson Valley. Round smoothbore barrel with bayonet lug mounted on top, near muzzle. Top of barrel stamped with "crown/GR" and crown over crossed scepters proof, near breech. Early one screw lockplate marked with large "crown/GR" in center and "TOWER" at tail with double-line borders. Converted to percussion during period of use. Brass second Model Brown Bess musket furniture and sideplate, buttplate finial was cut into shape of a spade at the time of restocking. Brass American made wrist escutcheon in the shape of a heart with sun engraved in center. Walnut full-length club-butt stock with relief beaver tail carved around barrel tang. Steel ramrod. Very good condition; barrel and lock retain a dark brown pitted surface with excellent patina, lock and barrel markings are very good. Nipple is missing. Brass retains a mellow patina, trigger guard has a break at rear tang screw. Nose cap is missing. Stock very good with scattered dents and scratches from use, one small sliver of wood missing on right side of forend and some old filled holes around pins.
