Two-stage swamped smoothbore steel barrel, rings and engraved stars divide sections, top flat of breech has gold inlaid proof mark with crown and "NOCK/LON/DON". Tang engraved with eagle, British flag shield, florals, and arms. Early flat lockplate signed "Nock" in script and professionally converted to percussion, probably by Nock himself, as holes in front of lock have been professionally filled and front tang is engraved with foliage, matching engraving on percussion hammer. Inlaid engraved silver shell barrel key escutcheons on each side of forend, engraved steel buttplate and trigger guard with relief acorn finial. Ornate silver wire inlaid initials "JJF" on stock, opposite lock. Walnut half stock with detailed relief carved clam shell around barrel tang and early punch-dot checkering around wrist. Steel ramrod. Nose cap, which was probably either ebony or horn, is missing. Very good condition; lock and barrel retain a dark brown patina with some pitting around bolster. Furniture retains a brown patina. Stock excellent with scattered marks from use, minor losses to wire inlay.
