Item Details

Description

Tall Rookwood Black Opal variant with peacock feather decoration done by Sara Sax in 1917. The vase has the classic blue hazing seen in Black Opals but does not have evidence of the black glaze visible on the bottom. Marks include the company logo, the date, shape number 904 B, a wheel ground X, impressed V, incised V and impressed artist's monogram. Height 14 inches. The vase was Xed for glaze spalling on the rim which has been repaired. There is also crazing, bubbles in parts of the glaze and a partial restoration to a drill hole in the bottom. Nice detail and color but a troubled life indeed.
