Description
Here are two original Chinese paintings, circa 1901 depicting children playing outside of the Door of Hope mission in Shanghai. The mission was famous for producing wooden dolls. The pair of paintings are on rice paper and are framed. The colors are nice but there is some damage to the lower portion of one. The word "hope" is written in Chinese characters on a door in the background of one of the paintings. Each panel measures 50" tall by 11" wide. The mission was built for women escaping prostitution and for wayward children. These panels show the children partaking in numerous activities.
Condition
some damage to bottom edge of one panel and slight damage to top panel of one. Very nicely framed and conserved. Ready to be hung.
