Description
Roman, Imperial Period, North Africa, ca. 4th to 5th century CE. A pretty example of a classic Roman North African form. These oil lamps are distinguished by their long bodies and stamped, low-relief discus designs. This one has a palm tree surrounded by swirls and grape clusters. The handle is a simple triangular shape. Lamps like these were owned by industrious Roman citizens, and would have been ubiquitous in homes, temples, churches, and workshops. Size: 6" L x 3.3" W x 2.45" H (15.2 cm x 8.4 cm x 6.2 cm)
