Description
Japanese, Late 19th/Early 20th century. Collection of two lacquered censors comprising of one of lobed squash form with gold lacquered fans, plants, and flowers against black lacquered ground with removable pierced gilt metal top with repeating star motif, unmarked; and a smaller censer with flying cranes above landscape in gold against black lacquered ground with a pierced gilt metal removable top, unmarked. Lobed censer approximate height 3.2", diameter 3.5". Smaller censer approximate height 2.25", diameter 2.75".
Condition
The larger censer has one large crack on the side. Some residue and enamel losses. Pierced brass lid has some tarnishing and discoloration. The smaller censer has four exterior crack to the body. Some discoloration and tarnishing from smoke and incense. Remaining incense residue to interior. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
