Description
Painting with colors on textile. India, Gujarat, 19th cent. The Eighth Incarnation (Avatara) of the high god Vishnu is Krishna, popular as an own god, showing blue color and very often depicted as an impetuous youth together with lovely shepherd girls. This painting from the area of Jain religion offers Krishna in the center under trees, dancing and holding his flute behind his head. Surrounded partly by lotus blossoms held by Gopis, also seen are at least a dozen cows, very amusingly painted in the size of little dogs. Indeed the painting style, also of blossoms and trees, features its own distinctiveness. Red background, stripe in front, lotus pond with two white water fowl. Medium good condition with wrinkle traces and flaws due to age.SIZE 96 x 171 CMFrom a German collection
