Description:
141 pp. Three lithograph plates by Bien and 71 illustrations in text. (4to) modern cloth-backed boards. First Edition.
This is a companion piece to Otis's monograph on amputations. Drawing on material he collected both during and after the Civil War, Otis discusses more than 270 cases in depth and provides an historical study of the operation from the mid-18th century up to the time of writing. An appendix summarizes in tabular form the various excisions. Another appendix presents an extensive bibliography of the procedure. Rutkow OR23. Cordasco 60-1352.
