Good condition
Panorama: View over the flat northern Dutch countryside with trees, fields and city in the background – half of the canvas belongs to the sky
Condition:
The painting is in a good condition consistent with the age with tiny craquelure. The varnish has been darkened and there are scattered marks and a small hole on the right side (in the trees). Retouched spots can be seen under UV light affecting the sky and the landscape. On the reverse the canvas shows a relined spot. The frame shows usual signs of wear and pigment loss mainly at the edges. The dimensions are 58 x 94 cm and the frame measures 71.5 x 107.5 cm.
Antonij Andreas de Meyer (1806-1867)
Antonij Andreas de Meyer, born in The Hague, was a Dutch painter of the 19th century. De Meyer was a student of the landscape painter Andreas Schelfhout. They travelled together to Germany during the 1830s. De Meyer painted primarily Dutch landscapes with lakes, forests and mills from time to time there are enriched with figures and houses. His oeuvre is furthermore represented by the busy winter sceneries with skaters. (msc)
