Large scale capriccio with the representation of the Colosseum in close proximity to the Arch of Constantine with figure staffage
In this painting the unknown Italian artist depicts a capriccio composition of the Roman Forum, representing two impressive buildings of ancient Rome - the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine - which he situates in close proximity to each other. The subject is quite frequently to be found in paintings of the 17th century, contemporary painter Viviano Codazzi (1604-1670) once represented a very similar subject, perhaps he inspired the artist of the work which is offered here. The frame has a bruise. It will be restored to the delivery.
Condition:
The painting is in good age-appropriate condition. The canvas is relined. Some retouching visible under UV light, partially slight abrasions in the margins. The varnish is slightly darkened. Otherwise generally of good impression. The image dimensions are 90.5 x 130 cm, the framed dimensions 104 x 143 cm. The frame shows few signs of wear. There is loss of material to three spots of the frame.
