In Italian painting, a capriccio is a fantasy piece in which fictional architectural and landscape elements are skillfully combined, putting aside any essential components of realistic representation.

Lot Note: It was originally believed that these paintings dated to the 18th century, however, upon closer inspection they appear to be mid-late 17th century.
