Title: Album of photographs with mines, Native Americans, and buildings in what appears to be Virginia City, Nevada
Place Published: Nevada?
Publisher:
Date Published: c.1900
Description:
12 sepia-tone sliver photographs. Photos approx. 10x12 cm (4x4¾"), mounted on both sides of 6 leaves in a small album, with "Koda Gems" and generic photo illustrations on front wrapper.
Very interesting if unfortunately limited selection of photographs - the album begins with a photographs of what appears to be Carson City's city hall, and four photographs of Native Americans (Paiute or Western Shoshone) are scattered at intervals. There is a large scale but almost inactive mining and milling operation identified as the C & C Shaft, possibly the Ophir Mine, a view of a sprawling mining town, apparently Virginia City, a group of well-dressed people in an orchard, a church, etc. There is also a separate photograph, on card mount, of two girls and a baby, identified in pencil on verso, "Indians and baby papoose."
