[Photography/Sawyer's Indian Art Gallery]. Very rare boudoir photograph of "Bor-eth-ka/ Commanche Medicine Man" with the imprint on verso: "W.L. Sawyer's Indian Art Gallery/Purcell/Indian Territory" followed by a list of subjects available from the studio. Image on heavy cardstock shows seated man holding a feather-tipped shaker or instrument. 8 1/2 in. x 5 1/4 in. William L. Sawyer (1862-) worked as a mail carrier and store clerk before going into business for himself taking mostly portrait photographs in Purcell, Indian Terr., in 1886. This photo likely pre-dates his partnership w/ William J. Lenny. They operated a photography studio in the town of Purcell from c. 1889-1891. Card mount shows wear & grime, w/ some foxing, image good.
