Gelatin silver photographs. Approx. 18.5x12 cm (7¼x4¾") or smaller.



Photographs taken by the husband and wife firm of Charles E. and Pearl Jacoby, who opened their first studio in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, moving to Kimball, Nebraska in 1910, then to Twin Falls, Idaho, the following decade. Each captioned on the reverse in pencil, apparently by the photographers' daughter. Includes three photographs of Papitsy Shay, a member of the Lemi Shoshones (Sacajawea's tribe) at Fort Hall; a traditional dance performance at Pocatello, Idaho; a Native American standing in front of a tepee, apparently at "Frontier Days" in Cheyenne; White Bull, a Miniconjou Sioux in full headdress; Benjamin Prettyboy, a Sioux at the Pine Ridge Reservation, apparently taken before he served in World War I. A striking group of photographs.
