WILLIAM MOULTRIE
(1730 - 1805) American Revolution major general who repulsed the British attack on Sullivan's Island, defended Charleston, and was captured and imprisoned by the British until 1782. Uncommon partly-printed D.S. "Will'm Moultrie" as governor, 1p. 4to., Charleston, Mar. 6, 1794, his attestation as to the accuracy of a copy of a will which once accompanied this document. Boldly signed at left margin, with remnants of his red wax seal. Tipped to a heavy mount.
