(1757 - 1834) French statesman and military officer who served as a major general under Washington and was instrumental in the defeat of Cornwallis at Yorktown. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Paris, Feb. 16, 1824, a scarce letter in English to "Mahan". In part: "...Here is a letter from an English gentleman whom I do not know and copy of my answer. Have your heard anything from Allen respecting the debt and the creditor?...". Small hole from abrasion in a blank area, else very good to fine.
