Description
JOHN HOUSTOUN
(1747 - 1796) Two-time governor of Georgia, the first mayor of Savannah, and an early supporter of independence from Britain. He commanded the Georgia militia in the invasion of Florida during the American Revolution and represented Georgia in the Continental Congress. Fine association A.D.S. signed four times, 2pp. 4to., Chatham Co., Georgia, January, 1788. Houston pens a draft of a deposition to be used in a lawsuit in Charleston in which he will be represented by Signer Edward Rutledge. Houston asks that the trial be delayed as he fears he will not have some important evidence ready in time for the trial. A few tiny marginal chips and a tape repair or two also at margins, else very good to fine.
