Description
U.S. Model 1852 Naval Officer's Sword Made by W. H. Horstmann & Sons Philadelphia. 28-inch slightly curved, etched blade with the classic Horstmann etching with stars, arms panoplies, scrollwork, anchor and shield and logo on the obverse with oak leaves, vines, riband with USN, fouled anchor and eagle surmounting cannon on the reverse. Iron Proof etched on the back of the blade. Fish skin grips with twisted brass wire wrapping. Retains the original sword knot. Leather scabbard with brass mounts and drag.
Condition: Very good. Bright, mainly unblemished blade with only a hint of scabbard wear. Most of gilt lacking from hilt but the brass still retains a warm patina. Scuffing to the leather surface of the scabbard.
