OLIVER WOLCOTT JR. (1760-1833). American Revolution soldier and patriot, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury succeeding Alexander Hamilton.
August 25, 1783-Dated Revolutionary War Era, Manuscript Document Signed, “O Wolcott Jr.” 1 page, measuring 4” x 7.75”, New Haven (CT.), Choice Extremely Fine. Being a legal document from the Selectmen of Branford to the Selectmen of New Haven, seeking the court costs to be repaid for prosecuting a Tory, reading in part: "in a prosecution against the estate of Charles McEvers who hath gone over to and put himself under the protection of the enemy..." Signed by “John Whiting Clerk” and “O Wolcott Jr” who has signed sideways across the lower right portion of the document. Research documents that McEvers previously served as a Stamp Tax officer for the King. Interesting and historical “Tory” content from this Revolutionary War date Document dating from just before the end of the Revolutionary War.
