Description
A choice Taino figural vessel from Hispaniola, ca. 1000 – 1500 AD. This elaborately decorated example is 5-3/4” high and features a characteristic deity head on one side. Looking out in the opposite direction is a zoomorphic creature, perhaps an opossum or similar animal, with both paws held to the snout. The upper part of the chamber is decorated with two different, deeply carved designs. Overall in excellent condition, with strong mineral deposits.
