Description
German, mid 19th century. A pair of finely modeled painted bisque figurines depicting a young country boy and girl each standing and supporting the front legs of a cat or dog as it stretches up before them, altogether raised on a naturalistic square base with chamfered corners. the children dressed in traditional play clothes of the early 19th century, allover painted in autumnal tones of red, blue, green, and yellow. Underside of each stamped "DEPONIRT / S&H / 709". Approximate heights 16.75" and 17". Note: the term "deponirt" was used in Germany until around 1890 functioning essentially as a copyright on the design of the stamped object.
