Description
Rare and highly collectible 3 piece set of Antique 19th Century Dresden Porcelain (German) manufactured between c.1884-1896 by the Voigt Brothers in/by the Dresden Porcelain maker Sitzendorf (Sitzendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur)(so noted because of its location in the German town of Sitzendorf).
This matching set of ornate Dresden porcelain includes a Pair of Porcelain Figurine Candelabras and a Matching Porcelain Mirror. The underside of each figurine has the blue Double Slash (Crossed lines) mark of the Sitzendorf Foctory (Sitzendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur). The double slash mark by itself is one of the earliest marks of Sitzendorf, and dates back to when the Voigt Brothers were in charge of porcelain production (c. 1858 - 1896). However, the actual manufacturer of figurines at the Sitzendorf factory is said to have begun in 1884 - thus dating the figurines and matching mirror to approx. c. 1884-1896.
These Sitzendorf pieces are considered the most prized among collectors, having been produced under the Voigt Brothers. The pieces are well colored, detailed and highly ornate, making them much more collectible than more practical utilitarian porcelain products. They are highly representative of the Dresden style of porcelain, distinguished by the use of flowers, shells, fruits, leaves and scroll work. Sitzendorf porcelain is considered so white it is almost translucent and often includes a gold gilt edging.
Approx. Sizes:Candelabras: 16" H; Mirror: 26" H x 15" W. Very good + antique condition. Provenance: Prominent Tennessee Porcelain Collection.
