Description
Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE. A nicely polished domed chalcedony seal, with a circular flat face carved with a lively stag deer with large antlers shown either seated with legs slightly out before him or leaping. A braided decoration outlines his figure. The stone itself is pierced through for suspension and has a nice marbled texture of dark red and creamy brown. Size: 0.8" W x 0.7" H (2 cm x 1.8 cm)
Provenance: Ex-NYC collection acquired in London in the 1980's

Condition
Comes with modern impression. Some wear to the stone itself, but the seal form is in excellent shape. Signs of wear to hole drilled for suspension.
