Very important original document. Is reproduced here the entire text ratified on the 13th of January, 1750 between King Ferdinand VI and John V to establish a border between the colonies in South America. In 1494 the border was situated near the 46th meridian, which was about 1700 kilometers from the archipelago of Cape Verde. The consequence was that the most of the American continent belonged to Spain. This Treatise, instead, is based on Roman law and report the Portuguese expansion and colonization toward the Amazon basin in relation with the Spanish Empire: it ratifies the passage of the Colonia del Sacramento to Spain and the passage of the regions of the eastern missions, managed by the Jesuits and the Guarani Indians, to Portugal. Spain and Portugal, substantially modified their relationships and the colonial possessions. In less than twenty years after the treaty, the Jesuits were expelled by royal edict, the territories occupied by the Guarani were expropriated and the border between Brazil and Paraguay changed.Mint specimen.
